Irene Holmes, daughter of the long-retired Sherlock Holmes, used her unique talents of deduction and observation to assist her childhood friend Detective Eddy Lestrade with his cases during the war. With the war over, Eddy keeps her on as a consultant, finding her essential to solving crimes.
During one of these cases, Irene meets Joe, a man who finds her instantly intriguing and has enough opinions of his own to keep up with her challenging personality. When Eddy requests her help on a perplexing murder case, Irene drags Joe along as her assistant. Using many of her father's lessons, they traverse post-war London, determined to find the killer before he strikes again. -

When a famous dressage horse goes missing in the middle of the night, and the bodies of an unknown man and local stable boy are found dead outside the horse's empty stall, the blame is immediately pinned on a gorgeous amiable stallion covered in the victims' blood. Eddy calls upon Irene and Joe's assistance as the stallion's handler swears by his, and his horse's, innocence.
The trio take a trip to the country to navigate the intricate bond between horses and their trainers and discover layers of betrayal and secrecy coating this glamorous sport.

Whoever is behind this mysterious organization isn't finished yet, however, and Irene and Joe must act fast before a more sinister plan is put in place.

As Irene and Joe dig further into the bride and groom though, they discover secrets that the happy couple would prefer to keep quiet, and reasons for someone wanting each of them out of the picture-for good.
With meddling, often come trouble, and it isn't long before Irene and Joe are deep in a twisted web of lies and deception that they struggle to escape. Tension runs high between the pair and puts them in grave danger while threatening to disrupt the friendship they've worked so hard to build.

The film’s American stars, the beautiful Kathleen Carrington and the flirtatious Don Radcliffe, have come to Britain for the red carpet. However, they are met with vandalized posters and a message that clearly someone doesn’t want Miss Carrington to leave London alive. They request Irene and Joe specifically to search the hotel the actors are staying in - The Ritz, of course - and the theatre, for any signs of foul play.
Just when Irene is about to rule this case a dud, a dead body turns up with the victim bearing a strange resemblance to Miss Kathleen Carrington herself. Irene, Joe, and DI Lestrade are swept up into the glitz and glamour of Hollywood as they attempt to keep the killer from striking again - all while trying to keep a low profile with the two biggest stars in the city.
